Germanic joy on sale

Enough to make design buffs go quite dizzy and weak at the knees, a private collection of over 1000 different BRAUN pieces, mainly from the years between 1955 and 1985 is to go on sale on eBay soon. Probably the most complete private collections of this period. Dieter Rams is one of the best and most influential designers of the 20th century having pursued a rigorous form-follows-function ethos from start to finish. In 1991 it was joined with a second collection in order to select the best examples of type.

The collection was created between 1979 and 1981 during the owner’s architecture student days. This is an achievement in itself because I every penny I had whilst studying architecture went on overpriced model materials and books.

The reserve is understandably pegged into the price of a small London flat and the collection will only be sold as a whole. It is with great pleasure that I have written this whilst listening to Kraftwerk, much looking forward to their forthcoming show at the Tate. I just need to get stuck into Christiane F now and I will have completed my Germanic indulgence.
