Grand Hotel Parco dei Principi, Sorrento, Italy

Wow, just wow. Parco dei Principi was designed by one of the original starchitects Gio Ponti, and is arguably the first ever ‘design hotel’. Yet another masterpiece of 60s perfection, Ponti impressed his vision upon every fixture and fitting from the ceramic tiles to furniture, all in same sky blue hue. If that wasn’t enough, the hotel is set in its own private botanical garden. So if you accidentally nod off and catch one too many rays you can reach out for the nearest aloe plant to ease the pain. The terrace needs no talking up, it provides the platform for you to live out all your fantasies; swanning about like Sophia Loren with a Limoncello in hand. You will have to find time to drag yourself away to visit Pompeii or Herculaneum.  Pompeii is moving and breathtaking at once. Rooms at Parco dei Principe from €119.
