Its hardly a discreet building – the former mosque on Stoke Newington High Street – but this is home to a very average food shop (of course) and the most discreet restaurant in the basement. Of course it might be advertised as it doesn’t seem much of a secret to the Turkish community. Even when you know its there it still feels like you’re helping yourself into the stockroom of the shop as you wind round the back staircase. The downside – there’s no license (which makes it a good Monday night destination!) – the upside – there are lots of cubicles and the food is good. I have no idea of the name but its a hard to miss statement building.
