Kings Arms, Roupell Street, SE1

I can’t recall if I mentioned the Kings Arms on Roupell Street before? Unless you’re one of the commuters that thunder down this most beautiful short cut every day then chances are you won’t know about Unofficially the Prettiest Street in London! Voted par moi. I had the unbelievable privilege of living here when I first moved to London to go to Camberwell Art College. It was a typically grotty house, unmodernised and had lots of uninvited ‘guests’ but I loved it nevertheless. The old lights are still installed and there was an old Citroen garage at the end of the road so the whole area was populated with huge battered old cars. On a misty late night I did tend to drift back a few years. I vowed I’d be back here to live one day and despite a few viewings over the years the prices have now bypassed and that book is firmly closed. BUT that won’t stop me, or you, visiting the Kings Arms to admire the street and surrounds. Go before a trip to the Young Vic which is on fire at the moment (not literally). Or work it around a trip to the one and only vintage shop in London in my eyes – Radio Days on Lower Marsh, The Anchor & Hope or Baltic (gasp- that word two posts running!)
