Lyme Regis, Dorset

No – not California – Lyme Regis! My mum will strangle me for posting this place up. Our ‘second home’ is a friend of a friend’s 1930’s designed villa with a panoramic view of the ocean – you can play coastguard all day long. Lyme is lovely without being too chi chi a la Southwold – all the cliff underpinning is done so major works over. Its just trad with a few mod touches. Though I have to say it could easily slip into that if any My Wife’s Bored shops open. They’ve just done up the Alexandra Hotel – good venue, big garden. Titchy cinema. Fossils! Easily enough to entertain you for a weekend.

The Mill bakery.

Wild garlic. Yep they loved me on the train home….lined the entire 8 mile walk from Lyme to Seaton. It was so verdant – and I ticked off so many 1970s house plants en route that we could’ve been jungle trekking in Malaysia. Shame about the EVERY OTHER HOUR bus service back to Lyme though! Ugh – wahh where’s the 38 when you need it!

Hix…brill on a hill.
