I was hankering after a visit to Mahdi for some Persian hospitality. The bread is to d i e for – sesame scattered sangak flatbread straight out of the restaurant’s oven. The clientele is a smart bunch, dolled up for Sunday lunch. Don’t except anything stronger than tea here – but that’s actually strong enough! Portions are gigantic and will feed an army for the following week. Mountains of herbs and leaves to wade through and great smokey flavours across all the meat and veg dishes. Lovely tempered light that filters through the stained glass.
