Open House 2011 – Brian Housden’s 60s gem

Firstly, apologies for the shameless nicking of pics. Wow….just wow. 78 South Hill Park, 1965 was supremely hardcore. Very far from cosy but a lived in, loved home. Bright blue mosaic tiles throughout, bespoke furniture throughout, bar a significant collection of Gerrit Reitveld pieces. I think my favourite feature was the continuous parallel curved copper pipes that ran though all the upper rooms. Absolute craft. The architect and his wife were charming, I was so intrigued as to what motivated them to open for the first time now – in their advanced years. And the response was that they wanted to see the reaction from the lay person. Well I for one was wowed by it.
