Willkommen to Berlin, fashion industry professionals – tirelessly on the hunt for the Next Big Thing and the New Normcore. Here’s a lowdown of Berlin’s best new (or overlooked) restaurants that weren’t here or in your line of sight last time you were here in kalt February.
EINS44
This old distillery makes for a lofty and striking setting and offers a light and modern French-German menu. Upping the ante considerably in terms of design, its enough to make some Neuköllners flip at the relentless regeneration steamrolling through their neighbourhood. But it is hidden far out of sight and impossible to stumble across, so will fly under the radar for a bit longer.

FAME
New restaurant from the Kater Holzig stable. Bang opposite the original site, located in a tunnel, right on the water. Small bar, open kitchen turfing out good food. Great kitten wallpaper in the loos (crucial).

DR TO
Home made dumplings and Asian salads in the “hotpot” of Neukölln, off Wesertrasse. Dishes from China via Korea to Japan. They nailed the ‘artfully shabby’ look that far too many Berlin bars and restaurants aspire to but fall short of – it’s a fine line.

RICHARD
Richard is not new per se, but its a new find – and boy is it gut. An original plaster ceiling, great art, top service and of course, Essen (food).
Koepenicker Strasse 174, Berlin 10997

SAGE
Actually not new either, but kind of forgotten about. If the sun is shining, this might be a good spot to kick off those diamond-tipped spikes, feel the sand under your feet and get stuck into a chilled Reisling.
