I can’t say I’m into Strictly on the telly…or ballroom dancing…but I AM into the Rivoli Ballroom. And Strictly Ballroom was an amusing and comparatively rather restrained film by Baz Luhrmann. The National Trust’s London Project & Hacked Off Films have got together to put on a production that will sink you in so deep you’ll be swimming in the experience for hours. They select “unique venues and other art forms to complement each individual film. From grand immersive experiences where audience members experience elements of the film before, during, and after the screening itself to intimate evenings of award winning short films alongside live music and comedy.”
The only discernible difference to Secret Cinema (other than Secret Cinema manages to attract the worst kind of bossy boots who all want to play Ripley in Aliens, all at once), is that the Hacked Off bunch have positioned themselves as a bit of a student experience. What does that mean – I can’t remember! Cheap booze? Snogging behind the curtains? Bad shoes? It sounds like an average night out in Kreuzberg…
