We didn’t get to see a dicky bird. It was thick cloud….but nevertheless it was great to get a poke about. The Observatory holds free public open evenings, on the second and last Fridays of the month, October–March inclusive from 6.30pm. You need to book well in advance.
Every telescope looked quintessentially of its time: the Victorian – wooden, brass and beautiful. The 70s one? Like a food mixer. Go, give it a whirl – its deeply inconveniently located in Mill Hill which felt far away but not really in the grand scale of the universe which is generally a little broader in its dimensions and distances.
