You’ll find the 60 odd buildings of Beelitz-Heilstätten south west of Berlin. This ruin porn hotspot is certainly no secret and receives a cornucopia of Sunday visitors – from dog walkers to a porn crew (it’s a well known location I gather). Access ranges from the hermetically sealed to the open and welcoming. You’re pretty free to stroll around the verdant woods and stalk the perimeter of each building to find routes in.
We marched kilometres and kilometres of corridors – trying to appreciate just how recently this was a functioning institution: Honecker was here as recently as 1990. Beelitz opened late C19th, was taken over by the Red Cross over WWI when the then unknown Adolf convalesced here after a bullet in the leg (shame it was a near miss). After WWII Beeltiz was commandeered by the Red Army Soviet military and became the largest hospital outside the USSR right up until 1994.
